Get Proper AFL Training Drills While Helping Out-of-Work Coaches Pay the Bills
Posted on 17/06/2020

Coaching platform One on One Football is giving a helping hand to inactive assistant coaches from the AFL and other leagues. These out-of-work assistant and development coaches have found new employment with the coaching platform founded by former AFL midfielder Andrew Raines. Australian Rules football players of all ages, male and female, can register for one on one training and learning sessions from AFL accredited coaches. The platform also offers online AFL training sessions for those unable to leave their homes.
Lost jobs due to coronavirus pandemic
When the coronavirus pandemic started to hit Australia, the federal government had to instigate lockdown and quarantine protocols. This forced the AFL and other state and minor leagues to suspend all games for the 2020 season until further notice.
Because of the season suspensions, almost every assistant, development, and part-time specialist coach was rendered redundant and out-of-work by the end of March. All football clubs have been hard hit by the suspensions, and none worse hit than the coaching departments that saw up to 90 per cent of its coaches stood down, with only the senior coaching staff remaining for the time being.
One on One Football
To help out, Andrew’s coaching platform has taken in, or is about to take in, more than ten coaches from the West Coast, Brisbane, and Western Bulldogs in order to conduct one on one or online training for anyone who wants to keep their football skills sharpened or for children, whose parents want to keep the kids busy during the lockdown period.
One on One Football was founded around two years ago by Raines who formerly played 129 games in more than a decade with Richmond, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast Suns as a midfielder. The platform now has more than 100 AFL accredited coaches across Australia that can offer specialised one on one AFL training drills sessions or online lessons.
